Royal Manchester has two new Match Play Club Champions.
Bill Chase won the 2016 Senior Match Play Club Championship in a close battle over Matt Smith by winning the 18th hole and winning the final match 1 up. Thank you to all the members that played in this event. It took Bill three 18 hole matches to survive the 8 player bracket. Bill was the reigning 2015 York Open Champion, so he was one of the favorites from the beginning. Matt Smith gave him all he could handle, so congratulations to him for his fine play. This is a member only tournament played from the white tee markers and is for players 55 and older.
Bill Chase kept his fine form going into the 2016 Men’s Match Play Club Championship. This time there was a 16 player bracket. Bill, although a senior, made it to the finals. The regular men’s division played from the back championship tee markers. Bob Ruby defeated Bill 4&3. Bob Ruby is one of York’s County’s formidable players. He is a multi- time winner of the 36 Hole Stroke Play Championship at Royal Manchester. Third and Fourth place will be decided between Jim Doyle and Scott Sebring who lost in the semi-finals. So, congratulations to Bob Ruby for winning the 2016 Men’s Match Play Club Championship and the Bill Chace for winning the 2016 Senior Men’s Match Play Club Championship.
